Clinton Campaign Fields Questions About DNC Email Hack, Russia's Involvement

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials with the Democratic National Convention held their final press conference Thursday morning, answering more questions about the DNC email hack, after they learned Russia is likely behind it. They also responded to Donald Trump's calling on Russia to hack Hillary Clinton's emails.

The Clinton campaign says the hack is a matter of national security, and should be taken seriously.

"We are very concerned that U.S. intelligence officials have told the White House that they believe that the DNC was hacked by the Russians," said Communications Director Jennifer Palmieri.

Trump said he hopes Russia finds missing emails from Clinton, but later said he was being sarcastic about Russia hacking into her email account.

"We should hold him accountable for those words," Palmieri said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is denying any involvement, but Palmieri says simply, they don't believe Putin.

"There are a number of questions that this raises," she said. "This is the first time in modern history that we have presumably had a foreign power engage in influencing our election."
