Trayvon Martin's Mother At DNC: Electing Clinton Is 'About Saving Our Children'
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Several mothers took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night. The mothers that graced the stage were a part of Mothers of the Movement, a group of black women impacted by the loss of their sons, which have prompted serious conversations about the relationship between black people and law enforcement in America.
Among the mothers who spoke was Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin who died in 2012.
Fulton expressed that she was proud to be on the stage with those mothers, but emphasized that it certainly was not by choice.
"I am an unwilling participant in this movement," Fulton said. "I would not have signed up for this." She made her motivations clear saying, "I'm here today for my son, Trayvon Martin, who's in heaven."
Fulton went on to support Hillary Clinton, saying that she possesses the passion to support grieving mothers and support common sense gun legislation.
"This isn't about being politically correct," she said. "It's about saving our children."
