Democratic Party Members, Leaders Speak On Unity At PA Delegate Breakfast

by Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The buzz at the Pennsylvania delegation breakfast: will Bernie Sanders supporters back Hillary Clinton?

Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf says the party will unite this week and back presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton.

"We recognize and respect those disagreements. The things that divide us are far less important, as Hillary says, than the things that unite us," said Wolf.

Pennsylvania Democratic Committee chair Marcel Groen says he believes a speech from Bernie Sanders Monday evening will go a long way towards unifying support behind Clinton.

"I realize there will be some minor protest, but that's part of the democratic process, and unlike our opponents we can live with the democratic process," said Groen.

but Ariana Flores Gordon, a delegate from West Philadelphia, says she can only speak for herself.

"I do not really believe that Hillary Clinton would stand for the progressive agenda that Bernie has been fighting for."

Cat Richter, a delegate from South Philadelphia says she doesn't think supporters of Senator Sanders will splinter the party and send support to republican candidate Donald Trump.

"With them both being non-establishment candidates, they do sometimes speak to certain similarities with people who feel disenfranchised for whatever reason, the working class. However, I don't understand how anyone could support Trump," she said.

"That's baloney," said chairman Groen when asked about the issue.

It's one thing party leaders and Bernie supporters seem to agree upon.
