The Dems Bring The Heat For DNC

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Democratic National Convention begins as a summer heat wave has it's grip on the region.

City and health officials are prepared for whatever will happen this week, including the heat. Noelle Foizen of the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management says especially for those outside, like the protesters at FDR Park.

"Within FDR Park, we'll have two medic tents that are staffed with the fire department and the medical reserve corps," Foizen said. "We'll also have two misting tents that will provide relief, and also lots of bottled water within the park."

Jefferson University Hospital is the official designated health care provider for the DNC. After the AMTRAK derailment and the papal visit, Doctor Roger Band says medical staff are prepared.

"We are ready whether, it's day in and day out emergencies or a larger scale event such the DNC."
