Residents Plan And Prepare For How The DNC Will Affect Their Commute

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Saturday starts all perimeter barriers in South Philadelphia, around Broad Street, creating a little bit of a mess in the area neighborhood known as Packer Park.

Local resident Lorraine said she anticipates having to do some planning.

"I've been inspecting which way to come in and come out of the community when I have to take my daughter to work," she said.

She said she hopes the closures don't have a big impact on her commute, but so far she is feeling confident.

"So far there isn't any problems that I can see."

Long-time resident Dolores is a little more concerned.

"They're expecting 35 to 50-thousand protesters," she said.

The protesters do have a permit to occupy FDR Park, just a couple blocks away.

"That's insane if they start trouble," she said.

And Joe just hopes it's all smooth sailing.

"We will do what we can," he said. "The cops will keep us safe, and we have to cooperate with them. It is what it is, and it will all be over by Friday, and we'll get back to normal."
