PoliticalFest Kicks Off Friday Ahead Of DNC

By Anita Oh

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- You may have toured Philadelphia before but likely never like this.

Politicalfest is a six-day event spanning across seven venues in Philadelphia. It kicks off Friday and runs through the Democratic National Convention. Visitors can expect a lesson in history, hands on activities, and dozens of exhibits.

"My favorites are the great things like the Air Force one, the Oval Office, the presidential limousine," says former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.

Rendell, who helped launch Politicalfest estimates it costs about $4.5 million. Most of which is offset by fundraising.

Actress and Philadelphia native Melissa Fitzgerald, says dabbling in politics on TV has made an impact off-screen.

"It's exciting to see the real life consequences of politics and the excitement of having a convention here in Philadelphia."

Organizers hope the celebration will help educate and inspire, as the convention becomes another chapter in Philadelphia history.

"The power of the people. It's our democracy. If we get involved, we can change things. Don't wait for leaders to change things. Change them yourself."

The event kicks off Friday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids. Free for veterans.
