Sitcom Star Gets Serious About Politics While Visiting Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the Democratic National Convention just days away, presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton is getting some high-profile help with voters in Pennsylvania.

You might say Clinton's campaign is getting a touch of Grace.

On the television sitcom Will and Grace, about a gay man and his female best friend, actress Debra Messing played politics strictly for laughs, but this election season she is deadly serious.

"I can't think of a time in history where there isn't more at stake, in terms of the trajectory of where our country is going to be leaning," Messing said. "And it scares me."

Messing was in the area to rally the women's vote, appearing at a roundtable in Montgomery County and a phone bank in Center City.

Reporter: "Do you feel like this is a two-fer? For also the LGBT vote?

"Absolutely," Messing responded.

Republican Donald Trump, of course, has his own sitcom star endorser, Scott Baio, who appeared at the RNC on Monday.
