SEPTA To Stop Running Trolleys Through Center City Tunnel For The Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, SEPTA will stop running trolleys through the Center City Tunnel for the weekend.
Every summer, SEPTA runs what's called their annual Trolley Tunnel Blitz. It usually stops all trolley service through the Center City Tunnel for about two weeks so crews can do maintenance and construction work, but this year the shut down will be much shorter.
SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern says the work will affect Trolley routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36.
"Anybody who rides those trolleys will need to use the Market Frankford Line getting on at 13th Street, 15th Street, 30th Street or 34th Street and then 40th Street station for travel in and out of Center City."
This year's trolley tunnel blitz was shortened because of the current situation involving regional rail lines being short on passenger cars.
Trolley service through the Center City Tunnel will resume Monday morning.
