Police: Letter Threatens To Blow Up Phila. African American Museum During DNC
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are looking into a threat against the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
Officials say that police received a letter on Thursday afternoon. The letter threatens to blow up the African American Museum during the Democratic National Convention, police say.
Authorities say that Homeland Security and bomb squad units are aware of the threat.
Patricia Wilson Aden, the president and CEO of the museum released a statement, on Thursday, regarding the threat:
"This morning the African American Museum in Philadelphia received a threatening letter. We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement. This is an ongoing investigation and we are not at liberty to discuss details or make comments. As members of the media, we consider you partners in covering all of the great work the Museum has done and will continue to do. We will have a statement to offer once we have a full assessment of the situation. We are open to the public and we look forward to continuing to welcome our visitors."
The African American Museum is located at 701 Arch Street.
The Democratic National Convention is set to begin on July 25 and run through July 28.
