Local Gun Control Activists Join Rally In Washington

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Several dozen people from the Delaware Valley traveled to Washington DC Thursday afternoon to take part in an evening rally at the Capitol to prevent gun violence.

Congressman John Lewis, House Democrats, and a coalition of gun violence prevention organizations were among those expected to attend.

CeaseFirePA organized the bus trip from Congregation Rodeph Shalom Synagogue on Broad Street.

Fay's been an activist since 2005, when her son Vincent was murdered. She says common sense gun laws -- like requiring that gun owners notify police when weapon is lost or stolen -- are not aimed at eroding anyone's rights:

"Nobody wants to take anyone's guns -- that's a 2nd Amendment right. Nobody wants to do that. But we think it's time for some sensible gun control."

Douglas Randall says there's a double standard in that many of those pushing for laws that make it tougher to vote are dead set against ensuring comprehensive background checks or no fly no buy legislation:

"If you can put that much effort on the voting rights, you should be putting that much effort into things that take peoples' lives."
