Blog: Banks Offering Bonuses For Opening New Accounts

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Thinking about switching banks? Many financial institutions are trying to attract new customers by offering cash or other promotions for opening a new checking account. These offers can be quite lucrative for consumers, if they meet the specific requirements for each account.
Bankrate.com recently surveyed checking account sign-up bonus promotions offered by banks in the 10 largest U.S. markets. Here are the top promotions currently running in Philadelphia.
- $300 at PNC Bank
- $150 at M&T Bank
- $150 at Santander Bank
"Consumers can certainly benefit from taking advantage of a sign-up bonus," said Claes Bell, data analyst at Bankrate.com. "However, promotions come and go, so it's important for consumers to act quickly if they see an offer that's desirable," Mr. Bell added.
