Showboat Set To Reopen Friday As Hotel

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — An Atlantic City casino that went out of business two years ago is set to reopen as a hotel.

Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein says the Showboat will reopen on Friday with 852 rooms and suites. The building is keeping the Showboat name, but will no longer offer casino games.

The then-Mardi Gras-themed Showboat was still profitable when it was closed in August 2014 by Caesars Entertainment. It was one of four of the city's 12 casinos to close in 2014.

After a disastrous sale to Stockton University and a failed effort to flip it to another casino owner, Blatstein purchased the property in January.

The beachfront property will open with a restaurant, bar and coffee house.
