Delaware Valley Gets $2 Million Grant To Improve Transportation Hubs

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Camden and Philadelphia are sharing a $1.8 million grant to improve transportation hubs that connect the Delaware Valley.

A large chunk of the cash will be spent on the Walter Rand.

Camden County Freeholder Lou Cappelli hopes to see a structure with many uses.

"Rebuild it and then build on top of it. I think we could have residents there. We could have businesses there. It could be a true commercial hub in addition to being a transportation hub."

Funding comes from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission. Board member and Philadelphia Councilman Mark Squilla says it's vital for Camden and Philly to have a strong partnership.

"It's so important to realize that if we just don't think individually and independently, we could actually grow the whole surrounding area, that will then benefit each and every county along the way."

There are 26 revitalization projects planned for the region with this grant.
