Put The News In Newsfeed: How To Still See News With Facebook's New Algorithm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Facebook has one goal and that is to keep you engaged with the website and the app. While the company is excelling in terms of the number of people with accounts, they are constantly focused on how to keep users on the site as much as possible.

Engagement with the site has everything to do with the content they put in front of you. The Newsfeed style used by Facebook means they have to decide what information to give you first and what information you have to scroll for.

The company announced a new algorithm on June 29, that prioritizes family and friends in your feed. What does that mean?

It means that top billing will go to the people that you know personally, as opposed to news agencies. So, you will now see pictures of your friends new dog and your child's latest selfie before you see the top news stories of the day.

However, what if your a news junkie and your top priority is to see posts from the CBSPhilly Facebook page?

No need to worry. You can still control the Facebook experience and the site will track your activity to create a Newsfeed that suits you. So, for your favorite news sites:

Make sure you like the page:

Click the down arrow next to the "Liked" button and select "See First":

This step will guarantee that new posts from the page will get prioritized in your news feed. You also will be presented with an option to be notified of "Live Videos," allowing you to tune in when the page and related personalities "go live."

Basic interaction with pages, like likes and shares, will also show Facebook that you are particularly interested in a page's content and it will get a bump in how often it shows up in your Newsfeed.
