PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Delvin Barnes, of Virginia, was sentenced to 35 years in prison in connection to the kidnapping of a Philadelphia woman in 2014.

The incident took place on November 2, 2014 in the city's Germantown section. Officials say that Barnes kidnapped Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, who was 22 at the time.

Freeland-Gaither was found alive three days later, rescued in Jessup, Maryland where authorities found her and Barnes.

Authorities say that Barnes kidnapped Freeland-Gaither on the 100 block of W. Coulter Street, dragging her down the street as she walked home, around 9:40 p.m., before forcing her into the back of his car. Surveillance video showed the two engaged in a struggle as Freeland-Gaither fought to escape.

Officials say after Freeland-Gaither struck Barnes over the head with a hammer, he threatened to kill her if she did not submit and drove her to Maryland in the trunk of the car.

Barnes was sentenced to the 35 years after pleading guilty in September of 2015.
