Charges Dismissed For Officer Accused Of Smashing Woman's Phone, Lying About Stop

READING, Pa. (CBS) -- According to the Berks County District Attorney's Office, all charges against Reading police officer Jesus Santiago-Dejesus have been dismissed.

No reason has been announced for the dismissal.

Santiago-Dejesus turned himself in back in May after officials say he lied about the reason behind an April traffic stop, then smashed the motorist's cellphone and punched her in the face after pulling her over without sufficient cause.

Official oppression and evidence tampering were among the charges that Dejesus faced.

Santiago-Dejesus maintained that he pulled over Marcelina Cintron-Garcia, 30, for failing to use a turn signal. Surveillance video later showed that her signal was on, according to officials.
