Hero Officer Exchanges Gunfire With Suspect To Save Fellow Officer's Life
FOLCROFT, Pa (CBS) -- On Saturday, the Folcroft Police Department honored the hero who exchanged gunfire with a suspect to save another officer's life.
Folcroft Officer Dave DePietro is said to have exchanged gunfire with the suspect who shot Officer Christopher Dorman seven times.
Officials say DePietro and the gunman engaged in a shootout after Dorman was shot. The officer was attempting to divert the suspects fire away from Dorman.
Officer Dorman is reportedly "up and in good spirits" after being shot in the face, leg and groin. The Delaware County officer had to go undergo two surgeries, but is said to be in stable condition.
Dorman was shot Friday as he approached people suspected of smoking marijuana behind an apartment building, prompting a three-hour manhunt near Philadelphia.
The suspect has been identified as Donte Brooks Island. He is being charged with two counts each of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
