NWS: Microburst, Not Tornado, To Blame For Damage In Cape May County

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ (CBS) -- The National Weather Service says the damage in Cape May County yesterday was caused by a microburst. Last June a macroburst damaged another part of NJ.

They visited the area today to investigate if it was a tornado that caused the destruction.

Approximately 10,000 residents are still without power in the area.

Heavy rains and strong winds combined to make it a storm to remember.

The winds were so strong, a small plane flipped over at the Cape May Airport in Rio Grande.

The roof was ripped off the Wildwood Public Works garage and the Florentine Family Hotel in Wildwood also suffered roof damage.
