Brush Fire Forces Evacuations In Burlington County

BROWNS MILLS, N.J. (CBS) -- Officials have alerted people in the area of a brush fire burning near Pemberton Browns Mills Road in Browns Mills, N.J.

Authorities say that there are about 30-40 acres involved in the blaze. The fire began shortly after 3:00 p.m. near the Lakeshore Mobile Village located at 102 Pemberton Browns Mills Road.

Burlington County officials announced that they are in the process of evacuating residents from their homes.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst released a statement on Wednesday afternoon regarding their involvement and response to the incident. The base announced that the fire started on the base ranges on Wednesday and that some homes in the Browns Mills area were evacuated for precautionary reasons.

Base officials are working with the New Jersey State Forest Service and the Burlington County Fire Department to fight the blaze. The base says that no injuries or structural damage has been reported.

As of 6:30 p.m., crews had about 25 percent of the fire contained on the estimated 40 acres.

They are unsure about what caused the range fire and they are currently investigating.

There is no word at this time on how many people are being evacuated. Pemberton Browns Mills Road is currently closes between Juliustown Road and Springfield Road. Drivers are being asked to find an alternate route.
