Man Shot After Allegedly Attempting To Steal From Homeowner's Car In Bucks County

By Paul Kurtz

MORRISVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- A car break-in led to a brief high-speed chase and gunfire in Morrisville, Bucks County early this morning.

One man has been arrested and authorities are considering filing charges against the other man who opened fire.

"Don't take matters into your own hands. Let us handle it."

Morrisville Police Chief George McClaye says the homeowner who confronted a thief rifling through his car should have waited for police after he called 911.

"It's not worth anybody's life just because someone breaks into a vehicle."

Instead, the man went back inside and got his gun as the suspect took off in a stolen car.

"The homeowner chased him down to Bridge and Pennsylvania, at which time the stolen vehicle crashed into one of our businesses."

He got out and tried to run, but the armed homeowner jumped out and fired twice, hitting the suspect once in the elbow.

Police arrived moments later and took both men into custody.
