Marian Anderson Award Honorees Announced

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's Marian Anderson award is named in memory of the legendary singer and distinguished Philadelphian. The award is given each year to artists whose bodies of work improve the world.

This year's recipients were announced Tuesday in Center City.

Singer Patti LaBelle is among three Marian Anderson award honorees this year. "Sound of Philadelphia" music moguls Gamble & Huff-- Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff -- are also being recognized.

Mayor Jim Kenney who made the announcement says this year ceremony will be extra special

"As it comes just a few months after it was announced that Marian Anderson will be memorialized on the newly designed back of the five dollar bill, along with other civil rights leaders. Marian Anderson's talent as a vocalist is only surpassed by her dedication of fighting for the rights of all Americans," he said.

Past award winners include: Jon Bon Jovi, Mia Farrow and Oprah Winfrey.

This year the Marian Anderson Award Gala is November 15th.
