Tourism Officials In Montgomery County Hoping To Cash In On DNC

NORRISTOWN (CBS) -- Montgomery County tourism officials are hoping to cash in on the upcoming Democratic National Convention with an estimated economic impact to the county of $17-million.

Ten state delegations will be staying in hotels in Montgomery County. 27 hotels in the county are contracted for the convention, with more than 15,000 room nights.

"Back in February we sent out a welcome kit which had lots of different materials," said Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board VP Ed Harris, "maps, guides, etc."

Which he says they hope will not only make visiting delegates feel welcome, but will also encourage them to explore shopping and dining opportunities in the suburbs. And Harris says they've put together a welcome video that they're tweeting out.

"There has been a little bit of resistance about them not being in Center City," he said, "but we think this video showing how close we are to the city and having some fun will really make a difference."
