Philadelphia Latino Film Festival Brings Different Points Of View To The Big Screen

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The region's only film festival designed to showcase emerging and established Latino and Latin American film makers kicks off Friday.

The Festival features roughly two dozen feature-length films, shorts and documentaries with a purpose of bringing a different point of view to the big screen.

"To showcase the fabulous work of emerging and established Latino and Latin American film makers."

Founded in Philadelphia, the Latino Film Festival includes groundbreaking productions in just about every genre.

"One of the largest or fastest growing groups, which are Latinos that are first generation US born."

Festival Director Marangeli Mejia-Rabell says the three-day festival includes more than two dozen feature films and shorts, that include Roma The Silent Film, which is a black and white feature that deals with love and womanizing.

It's about a Puerto Rican girl's quest to find her identity.

"All the films really touch on discovery, on growth on resilience."

The festival takes place at the Kimmel Center June 10-12. Click here for more details.
