Jay Wright Joins Gov. Wolf In Fight Against Campus Sexual Violence

By Tony Romeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On a day when he and his team were honored at the state capitol, the head coach of the NCAA champion Villanova men's basketball team added his name to the "It's On Us" campaign to stop sexual violence on college campuses.

Villanova men's basketball coach Jay Wright was introduced by Governor Wolf, who pointed to the Stanford case, in which a student received a sentence of just six months after being convicted of sexual assault, as the need for the "It's On Us" campaign to stop trivializing sexual violence.

Wright says Villanova takes it seriously.

"It is on all of us at Villanova – administrators, coaches, students, of all us – to prevent sexual violence and to create a society that is safe."

Wright says it is important to set an example.

Representative Madeleine Dean, a Montgomery County Democrat, says Wright has done that.

"He and his team are role models for us. And I thank him for the inspiring joyful ride."

Governor Wolf and lawmakers say legislation is in the works to address the issue.
