Pederson: 'Fully Confident' Cox Deal Gets Done Before Camp

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fletcher Cox is coming off of the best season of his career.

Now, the Pro Bowl 25-year-old defensive lineman enters the final year of his contract, set to make about eight million dollars. Cox, along with veteran running back Darren Sproles, skipped all of the voluntary offseason workouts before reporting to mandatory minicamp this week.

There is some concern Cox will hold out when the Birds begin training camp in July.

"I'm just hoping it's done, bottom line," Eagles first-year head coach Doug Pederson told reporters on Tuesday. "Let's get it done and let's get in here. And he wants to be here, he misses the guys. You can tell. Darren is the same way. Anybody that's been in a locker room before, understands what team is all about. These two guys miss the guys and they want to be here.

Fletcher Cox: 'My Contract Will Be Handled Privately'

"So I'm fully confident something will get done before camp."

94WIP's Howard Eskin, who previously reported Cox turned down $60 million guaranteed, is hearing the new Cox deal will be worth around $60 million guaranteed for six years.

Pederson says there will no punishment for Cox or Sproles missing voluntary activities.

"That's not a prerequisite to be here," Pederson said. "There's no punishment, there's nothing like that. We're just excited to get here."

There other big story surrounding the Eagles is their three-pronged QB situation with Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, and rookie Carson Wentz. Pederson was asked if snaps will continue to be split evenly among the three signal callers.

"It's something that, with Frank Reich and myself, we're still kind of discussing how we're going to handle training," Pederson said on Tuesday. "I would go out and say that this will not be the last time his reps won't be cut. Right now it's equally, it's thirds. It's equal. Right now, leaning towards that going into training camp."
