Phils Host Baseball's Best In The Cubs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will get quite the challenge over the final three games of their homestand as they entertain the team with the best record in baseball, the Chicago Cubs.

The Phillies have gone 2-5 so far on this ten-game homestand. After getting swept three straight by Washington, the Phils split a four-game series against
Milwaukee, wrapping up the series with an 8-1 win over Milwaukee on Sunday.

Left-hander Adam Morgan will get the start on the mound tonight for the Phillies. Since being called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier this season, Morgan is just 1-4 with a 7.07 ERA. He faced the Cubs two starts ago at Wrigley Field and allowed six runs in four-plus innings of work, losing 6-2. Last time out he faced Washington and struggled in that game as well, allowing six runs in six innings in a 7-2 defeat.

The Cubs, who are 39-16 this season, will give the ball to left-hander Jon Lester. The veteran is 6-3 with a 2.29 ERA. He got the win in that game a couple weeks ago that Morgan lost in Chicago. He allowed two runs (one earned) in 6 1/3 innings of work. That series as a whole was a nightmare for the Phils as they got swept, getting outscored in the three-game set, 17-5.

Here is the Phillies lineup tonight against Lester. Odubel Herrera gets the night off:

1. Cesar Hernandez 2B
2. Freddy Galvis SS
3. Tommy Joseph 1B
4. Maikel Franco 3B
5. Cameron Rupp C
6. Tyler Goeddel LF
7. Peter Bourjos CF
8. Jimmy Paredes RF
9. Adam Morgan P

The Phillies bring a 28-29 record into tonight's game.

KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer to talk about the Phillies recent performance at the plate, the first base situation and this series against the Cubs.
