A Popular New Jersey Park Gains A New Restaurant, Benefiting Community

NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- A new restaurant opened Sunday in Pennsauken, New Jersey and it's all part of the transformation happening along the Cooper River.

The Cooper House is now open, part of a 23-million dollar project to enhance Cooper River Park.

Ed McDonnell is with Camden County's Board of Freeholders and says the building was renovated using public funds, and is owned by the county.

"Our purpose was to make an initial investment of tax payer's money, knowing that the revenue of the restaurant would pay off that debt," McDonnell said.

Once the debt is paid, all the money made goes back to the county.

"This is just a very calm amenity in the park, with the beautiful views of the sculling boats coming by and sail boats sail by," she said.

A major dredging project was also just completed, in hopes of attracting local regattas and boat enthusiasts to the area.

"We think it is an investment in the quality of life in Camden County."
