New Habitat For Humanity Community Goes Up In North Philly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia raised a wall today on a new home near Temple University's main campus. It will soon be owned by a full time student with a full time job who put in some sweat equity.
After 350 hours of hard labor, 35-year-old William Harding is ready to sign on the dotted line. This three bedroom, 1 and a half bathroom home at 16th and Fontain will his in a few months.
"I've never been one to consider myself mechanically inclined, so it was really a learning opportunity. I had some bumps and bruises, but we all came together and they were really patient with me."
Frank Monaghan with Habit says the goal is to give Philadelphia natives a chance to own safe, affordable homes throughout the city.
"Twenty-one houses will be built in Diamond Park. We're really excited. The largest job that Habitat Philadelphia has done."
And that's impressive because Habitat for Humanity is the 6th largest home builder in the country.
