Montgomery County Woman Ordered To Stand Trial In Shooting Death Of Ex-Husband

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- A North Wales, Montgomery County woman has been ordered to stand trial on first and third degree murder charges in connection with the shooting death of her ex-husband in May. Prosecutors say it was premeditated murder, but her defense attorney calls it the culmination of a long period of abuse.

Prosecutors argue the evidence shows Hsui Chin Lin had an intent to kill her ex-husband, Chein Kuo Lin, because he had taken her out of the family business, and was living with another woman.

He had come to the North Wales home to fetch some boxes. But after the two were arguing in the garage, Hsui Lin went upstairs, got a revolver she had recently purchased, asked her son if he would blame her if she shot his father, and then went back out to the garage and fired the fatal shot.

But Hsui Lin's lawyer John McMahon says this was heat-of-the-moment and doesn't rise to first or third degree murder.

"The evidence is going to show that this incident was the culmination of a long period of abuse," he said. "You heard the son testify that his mother kind of snapped and was just in a complete crazed state of mind."

Lin sobbed as she was led from court in shackles, her formal arraignment is set for July 20.
