Police Search For Driver After Hit-Run In Hunting Park Claims Teen's Life

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating a hit and run that took place on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred in Hunting Park and resulted in the death of an 18-year-old boy.

Authorities say it happened at 9:07 p.m. on the 3900 block of Old York Road.

Officials say the teen was struck by a white Toyota Prius, and they say the vehicle was stolen.

Authorities say after the collision, the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle on the 1300 block of West Pike Street and fled the scene on foot.

The teenager was taken to Temple University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 9:28 p.m.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says, "In the last two weeks we've had an unusual amount of auto versus pedestrian accidents, and many of those resulted in death."

Police say surveillance video shows the Prius striking the teen, and speeding off.

Neighbors tell investigators they have seen the car before and the driver.

"They described a female as the person who usually drives that vehicle. We're pretty confident we will find her and find out if she was driving the vehicle that struck and killed the 18-year-old."

Authorities describe the woman they are looking for as a black female, short, heavy set, wearing a wig, and a white floral print dress

A week ago today, a Kensington pastor and church van driver was killed after being struck and dragged by a Saab. That driver remains at large.

Police are reminding all drivers to remain on the scene if they are involved in an accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
