New Study Says Sleep Can Improve Your Golfing Skills

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Memorial Day many people's minds turn to golf, tennis, and all of the potential activities that the summer can bring.

If you are a lover of golf you are going to like this next tip to help your game—and it comes from someone who may be one of the worst golfers on the planet.

Get a sleep study! According to a very interesting study, golfers improved their game by up to three strokes off their handicap when they complied with sleep apnea therapy.

By wearing a CPAP, continuous positive airway pressure mask, while they slept. Their airway was kept open and they were able to breathe freely during sleep. In those who had the treatment, skill levels of golfers improved as they became less sleepy and they were mentally sharper during the day.

The biggest improvements came for golfers who were already very good, based on having a low handicap. So—full disclosure—just wearing the equipment will not make you a better golfer without practice.
