Families And Veterans Spend Memorial Day At Beverly National Cemetery

NEW JERSEY (CBS) -- Well for some Memorial Day is a time to get together with family and enjoy a long weekend. For others, it's a somber day remembering those lost fighting for our country.

Henry Tokarski of Philadelphia says he and his older brother were in the service at the same. Henry served in the Navy, where his brother Thaddeus Tokarski served in the Air force. Thaddeus was shot down over Slovenia in 1944.

Each of the stories here are different and each of the stories of those who come to visit here are different as well. Henry, for example, told Eyewitness News for a long time he couldn't come to visit because it was just too hard. Others, however, say they make it a point every single year not just for themselves but for their children.

Michelle Hamlin-Mourey of Maple Shade, New Jersey says she brings her kid to remind them of the real reason for Memorial Day Weekend.

"I've been doing this every year since I was a little kid and I think it's important to being my kids here, so they know that it's not just about partying and going to the beach and that they realize that the people here made a sacrifice so we could live in this great free county," she said.
