Philadelphia Couple Celebrates 70th Wedding Anniversary
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As we head into wedding season, one long-lasting couple shows us how it's done.
Dorothy and Joe Waldowski celebrated 70 years of marriage on Saturday. The couple's four children, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren were among those celebrating. What's the secret to longevity and marriage?
"Don't go to bed mad! They say that, it's true," Dorothy said.
Joe agreed.
"No, never go to bed angry. Always kiss and make up," he said.
He remembered back to the beginning and recalls putting up a little bit of a fight for her heart, but eventually won out.
"Well, when we were dating, I said I'm not going to let that girl get away," he said. "Even though she had 15 boyfriends! I figured, I'm gonna compete and I won out!"
Theresa Repetski was a bridesmaid at the couple's 1946 wedding when they were 19 and 23 years old.
"The only thing that's different is the music," Repetski said. "They use awful Disney music now!"
And while some things stay the same, Joe says time moves quickly:
"Love. you have to love and understand on another," he said.
