Students At Overbook School For The Blind Honored With Achievement Awards
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An achievement awards ceremony was held Friday morning for students at Overbook School for the Blind. Visually impaired students and some with additional challenges were singled out for their achievements this school year.
Gerald Kitzhoffer is Executive Director & CEO of the Overbook School for the Blind and says different and specific awards were given to the students.
"Our kids who are recognized here for this have really made achievements whether it's in speech and communications, mobility, travel skills, music accomplishments, the academic accomplishments, attendance," Kitzhoffer said. "Every one of these kids has produced to deserve that award."
21-year-old Christopher Thomas received a couple of awards. He is graduating and feels well equipped for the future.
"Like Helen Keller said, 'Never bend your head, always hold it high, look the world straight in the eye," what that quote means to me is don't look down on your own limitations, look forward and look ahead to the future," Thomas said.
Roughly 200 students ages 5-21 attend the school.
