Pete Mackanin Says Chicago Is The Nicest American City

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Chicago is a gorgeous city, there's no doubt about that.

But is the nicest city in America? Phillies manager and Chicago native (University of Illinois at Chicago graduate) Pete Mackanin said yes, a day before the Phillies open a three-game series at Wrigley Field against the Cubs.

94WIP Morning Show host Angelo Cataldi, a Mackanin fan, questioned the manager's honesty about Chicago on Friday morning.

"Pete Mackanin, who I love -- I mean, I have to go back to Dallas Green to find a manager I like the way I like this manager," Cataldi said. "But Pete Mackanin said something yesterday, upon his return to his hometown Chicago, Illinois that I'm not sure people will enjoy in this city today. He proclaimed Chicago, Illinois the "nicest city in America."

"And he grew up there, and I guess that'll get you something -- he grew up there -- but I don't think you should say it...I wouldn't announce that I love Chicago if I happen to be working in Philadelphia because people want you to love Philadelphia," Cataldi said.

On the 94WIP Morning Show radio.com poll question, fans were asked: Which is the nicest city in America?

A. Philadelphia
B. Chicago
C. Somewhere else

The majority of fans chose somewhere else, while Philly received about 30-percent and Chicago just around 10-percent of the votes.
