The Basketball Tournament Back In Philly For Third Straight Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Basketball Tournament (TBT) announced details for the $2 million single-elimination winner take all basketball tournament.

The third annual event, the largest ever, will have 11 games on the ESPN networks and seven will be in primetime on ESPN or ESPN2.

"Our event continues to grow in stature and awareness, and we are again pleased to have ESPN along in an ever-expanding role to help us bring even more of our event to such a wide audience," said Jon Mugar, TBT Founder. "We are experiencing exponential digital growth thus far in 2016 and anticipate a shockingly high level of play this summer. We strive to put on the highest stakes basketball product in the world, and I'd be surprised if our prime time championship game August 2 doesn't get us all the way there."

The regional games will be played in four regions across the country: South (Charlotte), West (Los Angeles) July 9, 10, Midwest (Chicago), and Northeast (Philadelphia). The South and West regional games will take place on July 9-10, while the Midwest and Northeast regional games will take place the following weekend.

The Super 16 and Quarterfinals will be held in Philadelphia from July 21-23.

The Semifinals and championship will be in New York on Saturday, July 30 and Tuesday, August 2nd, respectively.

Philadelphia 76ers blog The Liberty Ballers will have a team in the Northeast region for the second-straight year, boosted by 94WIP's Jake Pavorsky. Big names such as Mike Bibby, Jason Williams, Jordan Crawford, and Russ Smith are expected to compete in this year's tournament. Current NBA players John Wall, Paul Millsap, and CJ McCollum will be boosters of respective teams.
