Uber And SPCA Bringing Back Puppy Playdates To Local Professionals

By Chelsea Lacey-Mabe

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If your work day is dragging on maybe a puppy would help pass the time.

On Thursday the Pennsylvania SPCA is teaming up with Uber to bring "Puppy Playdates" back to offices throughout Philadelphia, Conshohocken, King of Prussia and Cherry Hill.

Professionals can order the service between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. right from their smartphone by opening their Uber app and sliding over to the "puppies" option. $30 gets them 15 minutes of playtime with all proceeds benefitting the PSPCA.

"We expect demand to be high," said General Manager for Uber Pennsylvania, Jon Feldman, who is hoping the playdate event is as successful as the last one. In August the partnership raised more than $1500 for the PSPCA and helped 11 puppies get adopted. A similar event in October placed 21 homeless kittens and raised more than $4000.

The puppies will then be available to adopt between 3 and 7 p.m. at PSPCA headquarters off of East Erie Avenue.

"We have been thrilled with our partnership with Uber, not only in finding homes for adoptable animals, but for creating awareness for our adopt don't shop philosophy," said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. "The best part of these partnership days is bringing moments of joy to animal lovers throughout the city, and ultimately finding homes for the puppies.
