New Report Shows Alcohol Sales Are Down

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Global sales figures show that people are not drinking as much as they used to.

Sales of alcohol were down .7 percent in 2015. That's the first decline in alcohol sales since 2001.

Experts say that a sluggish economy may be the cause, forcing some drinkers to sober up.

Rum and vodka were the worst performing drinks last year. However, premium English gin, Irish Whiskey, Japanese Whiskey and dark beer are all selling well.
