By Greg Argos

MIDDLETOWN, De. (CBS) -- Michelle Wall volunteers weekly at Silver Lake Elementary School. She's on the school board for the Appoquinimink School District in Delaware and works part-time for the state treasurer.

She's also a Girl Scout leader. "I have 12 girls in my troop," Wall said.

She's also a Multiple Sclerosis Society volunteer. "We're making efforts to finding a cure and ridding the world of MS."

Did we forget to mention, she's also the National Mother of the Year?

"It was definitely very surprising. I'm humbled," Wall said.

The American Mothers Organization, founded in 1935, honored Wall this past Mothers' Day.

Wall is only the second Delawarean to the hold the title. She already has plans for her position.

"Locally here in Delaware, we're collecting supplies for women who are victims of domestic abuse and are being relocated and trying to establish themselves," explained.

"She is warm and caring and a champion for children," said Silver Lake Principal Cynthia Clay. "She's a champion for moms now, and always has been, and now she has the title to go with it."

Clay said that she is the perfect woman to hold the title. Her children are quite proud of her as well.

"My younger daughters has some more pizzazz and she's named herself the national daughter of the year, so she's fully embracing this," Wall said.
