Divine Lorraine Hotel Showcases Renovations At Upcoming Open House

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The public gets a second chance this week to peer inside North Philadelphia's Divine Lorraine Hotel as its multi-million dollar rehab continues.

The Divine Lorraine's first open house after reconstruction began last September drew overflow crowds. Now, on Wednesday May 11, from 3:30 to 8 pm, it's another opportunity for people to view the progress in transforming the graffiti-riddled 1894 building into apartments and restaurants.

Developer Eric Blumenfeld says the job is 60-percent finished.

"We're starting to install windows and work on the facade. So I think that people are going to see that the project is really moving along nicely," Blumenfeld said. "And we expect to have lights on very shortly."

Monthly rents will range between $1650 and about $2500, and Blumenfeld says leasing agents will be on hand. He expects the first renters to move-in by November, with the entire $44-million restoration completed by March 2017.

Divine Lorraine swag will also be on sale Wednesday, with proceeds benefiting the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
