Nothing’s better on a blustery day than comfort food, so we were delighted to find this truck in Manayunk on that Sunday in April when it barely climbed into the 40s. Ahh, the promise of a grilled cheese sandwich to warm the belly.
And for just six bucks we got a big brick of a sandwich, loaded with gooey cheese. They use a brioche roll, which of kind of sweet, and load it with raclette, a semi-firm cheese made from cow’s milk. Then the nice folks at Say Cheese add sautéed onions, roasted garlic and some parmesan aioli.
It tasted exactly like French onion soup if you could form it into a sandwich. Gooey, stringy and warm. A very good value. Could have used a little more butter on the bread when it hit the griddle, but that’s a minor quibble. Overall, a comforting success.
