Student Killed During Burglary At NJ College Frat

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A student was shot and killed during a burglary at a fraternity house near the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

NJIT President Joel Bloom said in a statement the burglary took place around 3:30 a.m. Monday at Tau Kappa Epsilon in Newark.

The Essex County prosecutor's office says the male victim was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later at University Hospital.

The name of the victim is being withheld until his family is notified.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information has been released.

NJIT is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the successful prosecution of the person or persons responsible.

The fraternity's website says the chapter was founded in 1965 and "promotes scholarship, leadership, character, teamwork, service, athletics, and brotherhood."
