The Jungle Book Keeps Crown At Box Office

By Bill Wine

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Make it three in a row for The Jungle Book. First-place finishes at the box office, that is, as the high-tech remake earned an estimated $42-million on its third weekend of release and remained at the top of the heap as its cumulative take passed the $250-million mark.

Second place went to the holdover sequel, The Huntsman: Winter's War, with over $9-million. The weekend's three new mainstream releases also finished in the top ten. The Key and Peele comedy, Keanu, with the popular television comedy team of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele making the jump to the movie screen, debuted in third place with $9-million.

Fourth was Mother's Day, the comedy-drama with Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts, with $8-million. And the animated adventure, Ratchet & Clank, took in $5-million, good for seventh place.

Overall, industry-wide totals were well below those of last weekend and a year ago.
