Celebration Of Black Art Throughout May In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A South Philadelphia non-profit will kick off its annual celebration of African American Art on Sunday.
The 31-day festival has a new name, with the same focus.
"We have not changed anything about the festival," says Valerie Gay -- executive director of Art Sanctuary.
The group has held the Celebration of Black Writing Festival for 31 years, but they decided to rename it the "Celebration of Black Arts Festival" to encompass the breath of the festival, which includes a free art exhibition, film screening, author readings, writing and arts classes and outdoor festival.
"We'll have concerts, we'll be featuring youth, local artists, local musicians," says Gay.
The celebration will also honor song writers, authors, journalists and more who are masters of Black art.
And just a reminder, "you don't have to be Black to like Black art," Gay says.
Events take place all throughout May.
