Campbell Soup Company Announces New Parental Leave Policy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Campbell Soup Company has introduced a new progressive parental leave policy for their employees, which could have an impact on corporate culture everywhere.

Bob Morrissey, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer for Campbell's says they've had an influx of millennial workers recently and wanted to provide policies that are important to them:

"What we're providing is paid leave for both primary and non-primary caregivers for new children that are entering the home, so that could either be childbirth or adoption. So we're offering ten weeks for primary caregivers of paid leave and two weeks for non-primary or some companies call them 'secondary caregivers'."

In the past, parental leave was geared toward just birth mothers and was based on short term disability policies.

"We actually believe the benefit itself will help engage our employees," says Morrissey. "We think engaged employees are more productive employees. We also think it helps us to become an employer of choice."

He says providing policies that support employees work-life balance not only helps recruit, but retain the best workers.
