Center City Jazz Festival Returns For Fifth Year

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Center City Jazz Festival will take over Sansom street on Saturday for the fifth year in a row.

Known for riding the edge of the art of jazz, the Center City Jazz festival brings 20 bands to five venues for six hours of music.

"It's a very exciting day for Jazz," says Ernest Stuart, a trombonist and founder of the CC Jazz Festival.

Even though he travels the world playing music, he hand-picks the acts that perform.

"I love all the music that's going to be played," he says.

The roster includes local musicians like Orrin Evans and Nasir Richardson, and others like harpist Brandee and saxophonist Tim Green.

Stuart says his overall mission to present acts that do more than standards is still the goal as the CC Jazz fest grows every year.

"To me that's taking an art first approach to everything," he says.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. One ticket provides access to all performances. The last two years shows were sold out prior to the festival.
