Viral Video Shows Men Cringe To Read Mean Tweets To Women Sports Media Members

By Ray Boyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Social media serves as a shield for some people. Some individuals find strength in being able to sit behind a keyboard and share their harsh views without facing any direct consequences for what they say.

A video is going viral on the internet showing men reading insulting tweets to two female sports media members, Sarah Spain and Julie DiCaro. The video was put together by Just Not Sports.

Sometimes there is some humor to be found in reading angry tweets directed at celebrities. But, as any viewer of this video can quickly see, this instance of it was not funny at all. It was disturbing.

The men in the video struggle to even say some of the things they are asked to read. They themselves obviously didn't write it, but imagine someone sitting at home typing out those words about someone who is a real person with real feelings.

What the men in the video are displaying is respect and empathy. Those are two things absent from the minds of the people that wrote those comments.

Women have worked tirelessly to find their way in the world of sports media and occurrences like those comments are too commonplace.

The people that wrote those comments should ask themselves whether they would say those things in front of their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and daughters. Better yet, they should ask themselves how they would react if someone said those things to their mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and daughters.
