Logan Hotel's Rooftop Lounge Ready To Open For Business

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's newest summer drinking establishment opens for business Thursday.

Troy Christian, General Manager of Assembly Rooftop Lounge, located on top of the new Logan Hotel, says the biggest draw to this bar is obvious.

"The view speaks for itself," he said. "Everybody that comes up here is just blown away that you have this unbelievable view of the Basilica, the library, of the Art Museum, the fountain."

Christian says the open air bar has an has an expansive view because of its size:

"The square footage is about 4,000 square feet including the interior piece," he says. "The interior piece is not as large, obviously, it's about 1,500 square feet. Probably once we get everyone up here we're looking at occupancy of about 200 people."

It's being billed as a champagne lounge.

"We have arguably the most extensive champagne by the glass list in the city," Christian said.

And they've gone to great lengths to bring in some showstopper beverages.

"We had to spend $35,000 to get a ten-case shipment of Château d'Yquem in so that we can pour it by the glass," he said.

Customers can enjoy a glass for $100.

Christian says much of the additional space on the roof that is not part of the roof deck will be utilized as a rooftop garden. Most of which, he says, is going to be incorporated into some type of philanthropic outreach.

"For teaching children the value of urban farming," Christian said.
