Phila. Election Officials Urge Voters To Check Location Of Their Polling Place

By Pat Loeb

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia election officials are urging voters to take a few minutes to help things go smoothly tomorrow. They want voters to make sure they know where their polling place is.

There was outrage, in last week's New York primary, when thousands of voters in Brooklyn were purged from the rolls just before the election.

Philadelphia City Commissioner Lisa Deeley says that's unlikely to happen here, there's been no purge, but she's afraid people might think there has if they show up at the wrong polling place and can't find their name.

"Oftentimes, people who don't vote regularly assume that their polling location is the same place that it was last time they voted, which may have been four years ago, and there's a possibility the location may have changed."

You can check your location online at the City Commission website, or Deeley recommends calling them at 215-686-1590.

She also reminds voters this is a party primary, so those registered Independent can vote on the ballot questions, but not for any candidate.
