Villanova Basketball Gets Big Assist Upgrading Arena

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The national champion Villanova Wildcats are launching plans to renovate their home arena, thanks to a huge gift.

It's the largest athletic gift ever to Villanova, and it'll be used to upgrade the Pavilion.

The $22.6 million gift from hedge fund founder and 1963 Villanova alum Bill Finneran was in the works well before the Wildcats won their NCAA championship earlier this month.

'Nova Athletic Director Mark Jackson says the 30-year-old Pavilion needs new scoreboards, concession areas, seating improvements and other amenities:

"Everything that goes into a fan experience needs to be really well thought through. Right now, the building's apart."

Jackson says there's no timetable for the overhaul, but he says planning will begin right away.
